The Farmer’s Friend block is a great design to learn TWO time-saving construction techniques! We will create Half Square Triangle units (a VERY common element in quilt blocks) as well as use “strip-piecing” to really move your projects forward quickly. Get comfortable with these foundational quilting skills while making this striking beginner-friendly quilt block.

Measurements are given for a 12” finished block PLUS a bonus 6” mini version. We will practice the following skills in this block:

▪ How to measure, cut, and stitch Half Square Triangle units (HSTs)
▪ The why and how of “strip-piecing”
▪ Fun alternate block layouts that use identical units
▪ Best techniques for using a rotary cutter, ruler and mat
▪ The importance of “alignment” and effective pinning
▪ Working with a 1/4” seam allowance
▪ Proper pressing technique
